Abstract BodyTowards a future Path in Comparative Oncology: of WSAVA One Health Committee Pre-congress Gap Analysis-
Based on the promise and the State of the field there is an urgency and opportunity to accelerate the integration of this Comparative Approach to Cancer drug development. A forward and future facing strategy is necessary. The WSAVA One Health Committee has organized a Comparative Oncology 2020Precogress, meeting that seeks to develop an agenda towards this strategy through an animal-health centric gap analysis. As part of this gap analysis, we propose encouragement of a new approach that seeks to bring interested human and animal health pharma/biotech entities together. Named Drug DISCO: Development Incentivization Strategy in Comparative Oncology, this distinct perspective will include the following:
Building connections between human and animal health drug development efforts;
Positioning Comparative Oncology as a parallel rather than preclinical model strategy;
We seek to determine if/how this part of a strategy can be integrated within the broader gap analysis and likely include venues, processes and strategies needed to build awareness of Drug DISCO.
As a result, synergies will be created to leverage resources, de-risk drug development, and generate returns simultaneously within a human and animal health drug development paths.
